1920's Music

The decade of the 1920's was a very fertile time for the development of american music.There were two main factors to the growth of the music;Commercialization of radio and the growth of the record industry.African-Americanswho migrated to urban centers in the north brought with them a wide variety of musical traditions.Jazz,a brand new genre,resulted from mixing these traditions with classical music,military marches,and a quick-tempoed music called ragtime.As jazz became more mainstream,white musicians like Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey also contributed to the development of jazz.Up to this day the jazz legendary musicians remain as the best jazz musicians,Their names were Louis Armstrong,Duke Ellington,Paul Whiteman and Jelly Roll Morton.
